5 Good Reasons to support Local Labor

1. A new approach to Council services

Local Labor will make funding basic council services a priority.

It’s time to get back to basics.

The current council has reduced spending on basic council services. Our footpaths, roads, parks, sports grounds, trees, main streets all need urgent attention. Council must tackle graffiti, illegal dumping, parking and traffic management.

2. A new approach to our environment

Local Labor will preserve and enhance our natural environment, our heritage, our streetscapes, our parks and our river.

We will work with the community to improve the Cooks River, manage water, protect native wildlife, improve recycling, support sustainable transport and balanced development.

Local Labor will work for a clean, green Marrickville that is tackling dangerous climate change.

3. A new approach to our people

Local Labor will ensure that everyone feels a welcome part of our community.

This means making our buildings, roads and footpaths accessible; providing quality affordable childcare; embracing cultural diversity and promoting tolerance across our community.

Local Labor will actively pursue a new approach to housing affordability so that people can afford to live and raise their families in the Marrickville area.

4. A new approach to parks and open spaces

Our parks must be well maintained, clean and safe.

The current council has not done enough to maintain our parks. We aren’t all lucky enough to have our own backyards but we share more than 80 parks and gardens in the local area.

Local Labor will invest in our parks and open spaces as a top priority.

5. A new approach to financial Management

Local Labor will not play politics with ratepayer’s money.

The current council has frittered away the previously strong budget position of the Council. They have failed to deliver on upgraded pools, childcare, library and other major projects.

Local Labor will not support rate increasing rates caused by the current Council’s poor financial management and overspending.
